19 Trade fair highlights light+building 2014 Living Spheres | Mobility Pioneering technologies for the future OLED and laser lighting solutions are the next great develop ment steps in automotive lighting. As an interna-tional market leader in the area of automotive lamps with outstanding expertise, including in the semi-conduc-tor technology sector, OSRAM is pointing the way to the future. OSRAM will be unveiling the fi rst concept studies that indicate future design options at light+building. OSRAM lasers – the future of headlights.Achieving a lot with a little The advantage of laser technology is the extremely focused light, which can be directed very precisely. In addition, the light-emitting surface is very small, which means that the headlights can also be designed smaller than the models known today. The laser light source from OSRAM is based on a combination of laser and phosphor: The spotlights of multiple blue laser diodes are focused on a phosphor conversion module, which converts them into white light. This white light – as with classic automotive lighting technologies – is then coupled to the optical system of the headlight and directed onto the road. OSRAM already offers similar systems under the name “Phaser” for appli-cations such as projectors and endoscopy units. The name “Phaser” stands for the combination of phosphor and laser. Concept study: OSRAM Laser-Activated Remote Phosphor Light Source — OSRAM Laser module for low beams and high beams for a glare-free and uniform light source — Laser pump source equipped with 4 × 1.4 W OSRAM laser diodes — OSRAM high-power laser pump sources and phosphor convertors create white light (LARP technology) — The modules used offer approximately 5 × more luminance than the latest high-power LEDs OLED – the start of a new light era.Design and technology perfectly combined The extremely fl at design, thanks to OLED technology, leads to enormous space savings and weight reduction and could therefore completely revolutionize body construction one day. Another innovation is the use of segmented OLEDs. Here, the lighting surface of an OLED is subdivided into equally sized segments that can be activated independently of one another and thus offer increased functionality. The segmentation also enables individual signatures such as welcome scenes to be shown thus generating brand recognition. Concept study: OLED Automotive Rear Light Demonstrator — Concept study with turn signal, backup light, and brake light functions — RCL (ORBEOS RD-R/Y-021/007) Light is motion 1 1. Around the world, OSRAM has over 35,000 employees and, in the 2013 fi nancial year, achieved almost 5.3 billion Euros in sales (as of the 30th September for both fi gures). The company was listed on the Frankfurt am Main and Munich stock exchanges on 8th July 2013 under the SIN: LED 400 (exchange symbol: OSR). You can fi nd more information on the Internet at www.osram.com Light is art OSRAM at the Luminale Parallel to light+building, the Luminale, which has established itself as the “biannual event of lighting culture”, will also be taking place in Frankfurt from 30.3. to 4.4.2014. OSRAM will be presenting a very special piece of light art together with the Deutsche Börse AG and the IHK Frankfurt, implemented by the lighting planner Stephan Horn (o_pium). This common installation in the courtyard in front of and within the “old stock exchange” also provides the framework and location for the Luminale inauguration event on Sunday, March 30 th . IHK building and stock exchange The classic facade of the IHK building, the “old stock exchange”, will be illuminated daily with changing themes. These interpret the six sculptures of the porticos in the reception area, which symbolize the fi ve continents of Africa, America, Asia, Australia, Europe, and country trade. Every half-hour, the offi cial colors of the IHK/Deutsche Börse and of OSRAM will be displayed for approximately fi ve minutes. In connection with the vertical illumination of the building facade, a spatial light-sound installation on the stock exchange personifi es the topic of stock exchange and commerce. A walk-in cylinder of translucent material with a diameter of 8 m and a height of 3 m abstracts a “stock exchange cabinet”. Videos projected onto the inner wall are transposed with white projector light, and via intuitive interaction with “visitors” they generate a highly dynamic presentation, also stimulating passers-by outside the cylinder to come in and get involved. Partner installation: Deutsches Architekturmuseum (German Architecture Museum) We show that light is not only seen but can also be “heard” in the lobby of the Deutsche Architekturmuseum: Arup Lighting and Arup Acoustics have transformed the spectral qualities of various light sources into a corresponding acoustic installation.
